B&W Fire Security Systems Supports Camp Colton | Community Giving

B&W Fire Security Systems supports Camp Colton by helping expand outdoor learning and improve camp facilities for Northern Arizona youth.

B&W Fire Security Systems Supports Camp Colton

B&W Fire Security Systems supports Camp Colton and its mission to provide safe, meaningful outdoor-learning experiences for generations of Northern Arizona children. Our donation to Friends of Camp Colton reflects our commitment to protecting what matters most and investing in the communities we proudly serve.

At B&W Fire Security Systems, community protection extends beyond the fire and security services we provide. It also means supporting organizations that educate young people, preserve local traditions, strengthen families, and help build a brighter future for Northern Arizona.

Camp Colton has offered memorable outdoor-learning experiences for more than 50 years. We are proud to support the people working to protect that legacy and prepare the camp for its next chapter.

Why B&W Fire Security Systems Supports Camp Colton

Camp Colton gives children an opportunity to step outside the traditional classroom and experience education in the forests of Northern Arizona. Students can explore nature, participate in hands-on activities, build confidence, make new friends, and develop a greater understanding of the environment.

These experiences are about more than spending time outdoors. They help young people develop independence, cooperation, curiosity, and respect for the natural world.

For some students, Camp Colton may be their first opportunity to spend an extended amount of time learning outdoors. It may also be their first chance to study wildlife in its natural habitat, look closely at the night sky, complete a challenging group activity, or gather around a campfire with classmates.

Those moments can remain with students long after they return home.

Friends of Camp Colton works in partnership with the Flagstaff Unified School District to help preserve and improve this important outdoor-education experience. The nonprofit raises funds, creates community partnerships, reduces economic barriers, supports program development, and helps plan for the camp’s long-term future.

Supporting this work aligns naturally with our values as a local company. We believe that safe, strong communities are created when businesses, residents, educators, and nonprofit organizations work together.

Creating Campfire Memories for Future Generations

Camp Colton has served Northern Arizona students for more than five decades. However, many of its buildings and essential systems date back more than 50 years. At the same time, demand for its programs has continued to grow.

The camp’s programs are at capacity, limiting the number of students and groups it can accommodate. Major improvements are needed to update aging facilities, increase capacity, improve accessibility, and prepare the camp to serve future generations.

The Creating Campfire Memories campaign was developed to help make those improvements possible.

The campaign is about more than renovating a collection of buildings. It is an investment in outdoor education, student development, environmental awareness, accessibility, and community safety.

Friends of Camp Colton hopes these improvements will help preserve outdoor-learning opportunities for more than 50,000 children during the next 50 years. Reaching that goal will require continued support from community members, families, local businesses, educators, and other organizations that believe in the camp’s mission.

B&W Fire Security Systems is honored to be part of that community effort.

Building a Safer and More Sustainable Camp

The Camp Colton master plan includes improvements designed to create a safer, more accessible, and more sustainable environment for students, teachers, staff members, and visitors.

Planned improvements include:

  • A new lodge with an efficient kitchen and space for students and staff to gather indoors
  • A nurse’s office and staff sleeping quarters
  • A safer entrance and drop-off area
  • A circular bus turnaround and improved parking
  • Updated water and septic infrastructure
  • Solar-energy systems
  • Dedicated water storage, a pump, and a sprinkler system for fire suppression
  • An improved bathhouse with greater privacy and an emphasis on water conservation
  • Updated student and teacher cabins
  • Expanded outdoor activity and storage areas
  • Space for astronomy, archery, ropes-course activities, recreation, and nature play
  • A large campfire area with seating for campers to gather
  • Improvements to Wilson Lodge that preserve the site’s history while creating opportunities for younger students

These improvements will help address aging infrastructure while creating more functional spaces for education and group activities. Updated cabins are also expected to extend the camp’s operating season and allow it to serve more children.

Sustainability is another important part of the plan. Solar power, water conservation, and modern site systems can reduce the camp’s environmental impact while providing practical teaching opportunities. Students will be able to see how thoughtful infrastructure choices can help protect natural resources.

Safety Creates Space for Learning and Discovery

Safe facilities provide the foundation for successful educational experiences. When students, teachers, and families can depend on the buildings and systems around them, they can focus more fully on learning, exploration, and personal growth.

This is especially important at schools, camps, and other community gathering places. These properties serve people of different ages and abilities, including visitors who may not be familiar with the site.

Camp Colton’s master plan recognizes the importance of dependable safety infrastructure. Its plans include dedicated water storage, a pump, and a sprinkler system for fire suppression.

As a provider of professional Flagstaff fire protection services, B&W Fire Security Systems understands the value of properly designed, installed, inspected, and maintained life-safety systems.

Our services include fire alarms, fire sprinklers, suppression systems, fire extinguishers, inspections, maintenance, emergency lighting, and monitoring. Although our donation supports the broader mission of Friends of Camp Colton, the campaign’s focus on safer facilities strongly connects with the work we perform throughout Northern Arizona.

Supporting Environmental Education in Northern Arizona

Camp Colton helps students understand the natural world by allowing them to experience it firsthand.

Outdoor education can turn abstract classroom concepts into memorable, real-world lessons. Students can observe ecosystems, learn about wildlife, study changing weather conditions, and explore the relationship between people and the environment.

These subjects are especially meaningful in Northern Arizona, where forests, water conservation, wildlife habitats, drought, and wildfire awareness are important parts of community life.

Camp Colton also gives children opportunities to disconnect from technology and connect more intentionally with their surroundings and one another. Students learn to communicate, work as a team, solve problems, and adapt to unfamiliar situations.

These lessons can build confidence and help students recognize their own ability to make responsible choices. By supporting Camp Colton, community donors are investing in children who may one day become Northern Arizona’s educators, business owners, first responders, environmental stewards, and community leaders.

A Local Company Committed to Its Community

B&W Fire Security Systems began as a small fire-safety contractor in 1989. Over the years, we expanded our capabilities to meet the changing needs of Arizona homes, businesses, schools, and community organizations.

Today, we provide fire protection, security systems, inspections, monitoring, backflow prevention, water safety, maintenance, and integrated life-safety solutions. Throughout that growth, our purpose has remained the same: to protect people and property with integrity, expertise, and care.

Our employees live and work in the communities we serve. Northern Arizona is not simply our service area—it is our home.

Being a local business comes with a responsibility to participate in the community and support organizations doing meaningful work. Our contribution to Friends of Camp Colton is one way we can help protect an important regional tradition and create opportunities for future generations.

Protecting Memories That Last a Lifetime

The impact of Camp Colton cannot be measured only by the number of buildings constructed or systems upgraded. Its greatest value can be found in the experiences students carry home.

It is the confidence that comes from completing a new challenge.

It is the friendship formed during a group activity.

It is the excitement of seeing wildlife, studying the stars, or discovering something new along a forest trail.

It is the independence students develop while spending time away from familiar routines.

It is the sense of connection created when campers gather together, share stories, and reflect on what they have learned.

These experiences have made Camp Colton a treasured Northern Arizona tradition for more than 50 years. With the community’s help, they can continue for decades to come.

Help Camp Colton Begin Its Next Chapter

Creating a safer, more accessible, and more sustainable Camp Colton is a significant undertaking. Community support will be essential to the project’s continued success.

We encourage our customers, employees, neighbors, and fellow Northern Arizona businesses to learn more about the project. Contributions of different sizes can collectively help Friends of Camp Colton improve its facilities, increase student access, and preserve this meaningful outdoor-education tradition.
